Mark your calendars, my loves, for the second installment of the #TWDPaintChallenge this Saturday May 9 @ 1 PM EST on IG LIVE!! One week ago I announced the kick-off of the TWD Paint Challenge. With everything going on in the world today, I felt compelled to do something uplifting for and with my community. Since we aren’t able to physically travel right now, I thought it would be fun to paint travel our way across the globe to 5 different destinations!
Last week we visited our first paint stop, Rome, and the results were truly OUTSTANDING! Nearly 1,000 people tuned in to the IG Live and I received hundreds of your painted submissions which you can view in the #TWDPaintChallenge highlight on my Instagram. I think we can all agree that we loved our time together in Italy, but now it’s time to virtually fly somewhere with a very different pace of life…
The second stop on our paint world tour is: MARRAKECH!! I can just hear and smell the buzzing sounds and fragrant tastes of the Medina now, le-sigh. We will be painting from the above reference, a photo from the interior garden outside my room at the Riad El Fenn. I stayed here in May 2015 and could see this view from my bedroom. To me, this embodies the feeling of an oasis in the madness just outside the walls of this boutique riad.
This week we will also progress in the lesson by adding in items to the photo that aren’t physically there, in order to make it more individualized. I’ve pulled the souk slippers above and the bergamots below (a fragrant citrus fruit found in the Medina) to add into our painting on Saturday.
Supplies for Saturday:
- Watercolor paper, white multipurpose sketch pad, or computer paper.
- 1/2 inch angle brush, size 5 or 8 round brush, and size 0 round for details.
- Primary set of watercolors, gouaches, or acrylics.
- Colored pencils.
- Ruler and eraser.
