This past June I was approached by the associate art director at O, The Oprah Magazine with an exciting project. She wanted me to create 6 figure illustrations that could be merged with photographed garments for their story on chic, plus-size designs. The twist was that she wanted me on set to help direct the positioning of the model during the shooting of the items.
I leapt at the opportunity to join the team on set and be apart of the action. I hadn’t been in a magazine environment since my days working as a fashion intern in Toronto. Not to mention I had never been on set for a photo shoot that would eventually be married with my illustrations!! So off I went to join the team in the Hearst tower and sink my teeth in.
The layouts you see here are the final results of our collaboration. All the garments are photographed. I had to make sure that each figure fit nicely with one another but also wore the clothes in a natural way. We also wanted to showcase diversity amongst the women so I had many things to think about and consider with this commission.
In the end I’m so pleased and proud to have contributed 2 pages to the September issue of O, The Oprah Magazine. Fingers crossed I’ll get to do it again!!
